To Barn & Market

What a day to be a junker! I stuffed four of my favorite junking activites all into one not long enough day. In the early morning I set out in my silver Odyssey in search of treasures in a nearby neighborhood. It didn't take long before my junking hunch was totally rewarded. If I wouldn't have been driving, I would have been skipping from sale to sale, all with a sparkle in my eye while breaking out into some sort of junking joy song. After dropping a van load at home (into an already packed garage), I marked and cleaned my treasure trove that would soon be set for the Latah Market. I hugged my boys before I drove to run errands, which took me all all over Trent looking for a strip of metal. It was not to be found, so I have a new project for next week.

Driving on Trent, I glimpsed a window of All That Glitters, and so wished I could have stopped and peeked, but kept on driving straight to Rathdrum, to visit Rolane and some of her vendors who were setting up for The Vintage Barn show. Shoppers are in for a treat, every booth was filled with wonders! Rolane generously took time to chat with me and I took time to admire her spread of property, barn, house, and a darling playhouse to boot!

Time was ticking, so I started the drive back to Spokane and managed to arrive just in time to help load up my dad's truck and our van (well, Mark loaded it) full of furniture and finds. The hours flew setting up for the Chaps Latah Market, full of sharing stories with friends, admiring booth construction and contents and last but not least, getting to work. I have another full van load packed and ready to roll early tomorrow morning. I'm so excited that I get to spend the weekend with all of the wonderful people that make the shows in this part of the junking world pure pleasure. So, on to pancakes (Chaps), cookies (Cake), eye candy (market finds) and sweets (all of you!). Now if only I could find a sale open at 7 a.m....

Having my Cake and eating There too

I'm feeling the pre-show buzz building. The hard, hard work is done this week, just finishing touches left before I haul my funky junk to the Latah Market. I have more than enough for two days full and I'm looking forward to seeing everyone who comes out to enjoy the market. So much to see and do and enjoy at Chaps/Cake, and the proprietress, Celeste Shaw is the best hostess. I would like to hang out there every day, or maybe just once a week and soak in the creativity, beauty and love that make Chaps & Cake what they are. So take a bit of time to come out this weekend and experience good fun, funky junk and cake love.

July Junky Finds

I have been out junking as much as I possibly can the past few weeks, filling up my inventory for the Latah Market at Chaps/Cake. So I then found myself faced with a garage packed with things to work on, clean, repurpose and mark. All of this is good, now that my teacher husband is done with summer school and I have more time. I've been spending more days working on my Funky Junk work, which some days this week has felt alot like play. I've been spending lots of quality time with my furniture and finds, a few of which I've pictured here. There is more. Much more.

My oldest, a seven year old, told me Monday, "We're more important than your stuff." I think he got that from a Berenstein Bears episode, but point taken. So we had a talk under the cherry tree, on a bench I found junking, about how I love them and miss them, but it's okay for Mommy to work. And that I'm just out in the garage.

One of A Kind Funky Junk Finds...

I'm watching Design Star on HGTV and it really reminds me how much vintage items inspire me; their form, their function, their worn and rediscovered beauty. Earlier I was enjoying looking through my "junk stash" in the garage and taking pictures of some of my favorite finds of the week. Then it occured to me that it would be fun to share some of my one of a kind funky junk finds every week this summer until Labor Day and our Funky Junk Show in Sandpoint, ID.
So these are just a sampling of some of my favorites this week, some are going to the show, some are staying with me for awhile; but all of them inspired me in some way. Enjoy your week, and I'll keep on funky junking...

Piece of Cake

I admit it. I was looking forward to The Farm Chicks after party/Cake premier as much as the actual show. For a long time Farm Chick and Chaps fan, this was the combination of so many good things all wrapped up in yummy pastry! It did not disapoint. Cake is a jewel of a bakery and I cannot wait to go and hang out there and eat. Alot. Both hang out and eat alot. Serena and Celeste were the best hostesses and wow. The food, the ambience, the desserts (I tried almost every one), the atmosphere, the music, the drinks, the guests, Celeste's incomparable staff, it was just pure magic. I floated home. And every time I need a happy thought, my mind floats back to that night. Thank you Celeste and Serena for making such an amazing night in the middle of two dreamy days a reality.
