Peek A Boo

Funky Junk Spring 2010 Preview
More to come tomorrow....

Things To Come

I was setting up my booth for the show today with my mom, who is a creative genius and so talented at many things. I took a few pics to share a little bit of what will be there this weekend. Tomorrow the fun really starts as vendors bring their visions to life. I love watching all of the creating, so inspiring, and the joining together of so many talented people in one place, well, that's the cool part. And it's beyond fun to walk around and find those things that I must live with.
So, what is YOUR best vintage find? I'll be randomly drawing a name from the comments to this discussion, and the winner will receive a $5 gift certificate to my booth, Joy Harvest, at the show!
Looking forward to seeing your stories!
Love
Hollie=)

Fan-tastic!

One of my favorite posters (*they're all my favorite) from past Funky Junk shows is one featuring a vintage fan. I have a thing for vintage fans, I kind of love them actually. When I get to go out junking I'm always on the lookout for these reminders of slower days. I always think of the stories that have whirred through those spinning blades, now silent. Sometimes the fans work, sometimes they just sit there and look good. I especially love the perfect shade of blue ones that I've found and let slip through my hands to arrive at their true homes through the years.
One of my favorite things about Funky Junk is the fans. We have had so much fun every show talking to people about our junk, that becomes their junk. There are always stories that go with the objects, and then they slip through our fingers and go to their true homes, and the stories continue. It's the people who make Funky Junk what it is, our vendors who shine, our fans and shoppers who light up our granges. It truly is about love, fun & junk.
One of our favorite long time fans is Naomi, who is a NICU nurse and now is enduring a bedrest pregnancy herself. She won't be able to make it to this show, so I thought I'd post pictures of a few items in her house that over the years she has bought from Joy Harvest and Funky Junk. Hang in there Naomi, we'll see you next time with your sweet baby!!
PS...our fans really rock.

Yesterday's Harvest or Joy Connection...

Sometimes Jennifer & I (Hollie) like to combine our original business names together. We both have a thing for words, and frankly, talking. This also usually occursis when it's really late and we're setting up, really late for a show, because we've spent most of our work time talking and gawking at each other's finds and are giddy with junking fever.
See, we both started out selling our own unique, though complimentary (very funky junk) vintage finds and met working two booths down from each other. On a side note, we also met another of our junking friends through virtue of her being right in the middle of our booths. Good times, those were.
When we decided to start our show together three years ago (seven shows ago!!) we set on our name because well, we have super funky junk, and decided that we were all about love, fun & junk. Pretty simple.
We love gathering vendors/friends (it's hard to seperate the two, and one ends up becoming the other) together, but we have also continued to each sell out of our own booths, real names: Yesterday's Connection (Jennifer Wood) and Joy Harvest (Hollie Eastman). We really do love everything about junking; the finds, the friendships, the pure fun. So enjoy a few pictures of our junk, and then come and see what our many vendors and Jennifer and I have pulled together for this new decade, this original Funky Junk show, for you.

Scouting out Dahlias

While planning my show outfits this weekend, yes, I really do this=), I kept coming across pieces of my favorite jewlery, and most of them are either from the booths of two super creative women, Scout (Robyn) and Dahlia (Amy). It has been an absolute pleasure getting to spend weekends with these girls over the years, and I really could just hang out in their booths and enjoy viewing their ecclectic creations and finds. They set up their booths like mini stores, one full of delectable, feast for the eyes jewlery (Dahlia) and the other full of treasures and finds at every turn for home, for looking stylish and many just have to haves (Scout). It wouldn't be a Funky Junk weekend with Amy and Robyn--thanks for sharing your incredible talents with us all girls!!

Bizi Bee

I fell for these owls the first time I laid eyes on them in September at our Funky Junk show in Sandpoint Labor Day weekend. And then I decided they had to come home with me! I gave some of them as gifts to my mom and kept some for myself, and I smile whenever I lay eyes on them now in my home. Everything Jamie of Bizi, from Coeur d' Alene touches is so pulled together, so thought out and so meant to complement your home. Walking into her booth is just like coming home, or at least to a very nice version of what a home can look like! We love getting to share Funky weekends with Jamie and her husband Mike and are extremely excited to get to see what amazing pieces she has re-purposed with her creative touch this time. Bizi is not to miss!

A friend closer than a junker

I thought I'd introduce you to my friend and converted junker Christy today. She's going to be participating in not only Funky Junk in 10 days!!! but, also joining my annual family garage sale this Thurs & Fri. So, double the fun=). Christy has a fun eye for everything retro/vintage and is a creative soul, a scrapbook artist even! Her (seeminly endless) energy and enthusism for junking and creating is contagious, and she has some cool candy too!
I'm still enjoying my buys from her booth the past several shows and can't wait to see what she has found to unviel this spring! You fly Vintage Green Bird Christy!
